Silence is often feared, especially if someone is upset, we as helpers want to fill the gap and make it all all right again! We feel uncomfortable and ask what should we be doing. But silence is the helpers greatest gift, people need to process what they have just said or felt, they need to sit with their feelings and just be. So next time you reach an awkward silence just go with it and see how much comfort just being with someone can bring.
Silence is also very good for getting to know yourself, send some time alone and in silence everyday, meditate, contemplate or just relax. It helps calm the soul and our over active brains. And its free !
