Taking back control of our lives has a lot to do with clear ourselves of negative thinking, in order to reclaim our life back. In the process of taking control of our own lives, we may need to change the nature of your relationship with some people. Relationships become unhealthy when we worry so much about the other person, that we forget to look out for our own needs. We need to acknowledge the emotions behind our actions, and practice self-compassion in order to be able to let go of the past, and look forward to our future. When we love and accept ourselves, we become stronger in our emotional interactions with others, and we are able to set guidelines for how we will allow others to treat us, and what kind of behaviour we will expect from people around us.
I can testify for myself that when we’ve had experienced traumatic things in the past, we feel that we have no power over our own lives. Sometimes we rely on family members or friends to make decisions for us and take action in our behalf, because we feel unable to make decisions for ourselves. In order to take control back in our lives, we need to be emotionally strong to take care of ourselves physically, spiritually and emotionally. It’s important to let go of our fears and have trust in ourselves, and in some cases, is also about realising that it is time to stop taking on peoples problems as if they are our own.
When we believe in our potential, we start to create our own destiny. When our self-steem is low, we tend to isolate ourselves and feel lonely; we focus on our weaknesses or past mistakes, and we find it hard to recognise the positive parts of our personality. There are many things we can do to begin the process of taking control of our own lives again, and determining what our values are, and getting our priorities straight, is the first step we need to take. Sometimes, even when we are doing much better emotionally, we continue to allow others to make decisions in our behalf, and when we are not aware of our own values, the decisions that are made for us and the resulting action, are not those we would have chosen.
Start by thinking about what and who is important to you in life, also think about the person you want to be. Focus on what qualities, ways of thinking, and values you need to have in order to be that person. Decide what you have to do to boost your self-esteem and satisfaction with life. Stop trying to fix what’s meant to stay broken, and move on when necessary. It’s really important to remember that the only person you really have control over is yourself. Strive for more by aiming to reach your full potential. Create healthy daily rituals because you have to be able to envision where you want to be from the beginning.
I love making lists, and when I decided that it was time to take control of my life back, I started making a list of things that have kept me from doing the things I wanted to do in the past. I understood that I have the right to make mistakes, and I don’t have to be perfect, and I developed a plan in order to start doing all the things that felt right to me, instead of relying on others to make decisions for me. I think it’s a good idea to use a journal to list or write your thoughts as a way to stay focused on what you really want, and to motivate yourself to consciously regain control over your own life.
Figure out the best way to make your life the way you want it to be. Make your own decisions about what feels right to you and what doesn’t. Surround yourself with positivity and with people who inspires you in different ways, and honour your true self in your choices. The path to self improvement is about discovering your true nature and self. It’s the process of embracing your physical and emotional being in order to reach the essence of who you truly are.
Wisdom in life is about finding solutions, so it’s important to be willing to get out of your comfort zone. Fear is what holds us back. It makes you stick to the paths that you know, and it stops you from exploring new possibilities. Reconnect with God and with your true essence in order to adjust to life changes, and constant remind your inner self to make choices according to your values every day, so you will feel more in control and confident in your decisions.
Learn to listen to your intuition and remember that to take control of your life and live the life you want, you should not choose what’s easy over what you really want to do. Use all the pain from your past mistakes to refocus, and take the best action in order to pursue a new path in life. Welcome positive thoughts and believe that things will change for the better if you are prepared to take a few risks. Remember that you are not what happened to you, you are what you chose to become.
