Reiki is a Japanese technique used to promote healing of the body and spirit through stress reduction and relaxation. The word Reiki consists of two Japanese words to mean Spiritually Guided Life Force Energy. Rei means God’s wisdom or the High Power and Ki meaning Life Force Energy. It is the life force energy administrators of Reiki use to help heal and restore.
Mikao Usui Sensei is documented to be the original founder of what is today known as the Reiki healing system in the early 1900’s. A story inscribed on his burial memorial stones chronicles Mikao Usui Sensei fasting for 21 day atop Mt. Kurama where he experienced a powerful Reiki spiritual awakening which provided him with the understanding of Reiki and the healing system.
Today, Reiki has been adapted, practiced and experienced by millions; with its popularity only growing. The stone of Mikao Usui Sensei gives us insight as to why this is so. He believed every time you sit quietly and join your hands to pray magic happens in aligning our spirit and mind with God’s spiritual ability. It is the energy that is produced by this connection that can heal us and others.
The stone also gives us 5 admonitions to begin our journey of Reiki alignment.
1. Don’t get angry today.
2. Don’t be grievous.
3. Express your thanks.
4. Be diligent in your business.
5. Be kind to others.
Mikao Usui Sensei believed these concepts were ‘surely the secret process to bring good fortune and also the miraculous medicine to remedy all kinds of diseases.’ I think many in the healing and spiritual arts would agree when you apply this mindset, miracles can happen.
A Reiki treatment has no set protocol and can be performed by a professional practitioner who has studied with a Reiki Master. Like many in the healing arts if you have a friend studying Reiki and you want to benefit through their learning, then you are encouraged to do so. Share what is ailing or stressing you with the person performing your Reiki. It is all about feeling comfortable and confident in the hands of your Reiki administrator.
Reiki cannot hurt or bruise you in anyway. It is a based on a light or no touch application. It is used often in hospice and nursing homes. You are fully clothed and you will be asked to either lie down or sit comfortably in a chair. Your practitioner will place their hands on or above locations on your head, front and back of the torso to begin the healing. It is that easy! If you get into it like you can – both you and your Reiki administrator will feel invigorated and universal connected. What a cool benefit!
And from those that experience Reiki the benefits are many. A keener awareness of the bond that takes place between our spirit and body to help us to destress and relax. This stronger connection allows us to think freely and to look at any situation in a new positive way. It gives us the power to have mind control to master our body with our spiritual power. We can direct this energy to zap away our tensions, fears and anxieties that can cripple and harm our bodies as well as provide ourselves with extra doses of oomph to accomplish.
We do not have to spend time fasting on a mountaintop like Mikao Usui Sensei to achieve our Reiki moment. Find your Reiki practitioner and start your own spiritual awakening!
