It changes both the function and structure of the brain to support self-control. The more we meditate, the less anxiety we have, and this is because we’re actually loosening the connections of particular neural pathways. When we weaken this neural connection, we don’t react as strongly to sensations. This process also strengthen the connection between a part of our brain responsible for our reasoning, and our bodily sensation and fear centers. So when we experience scary or upsetting sensations, we can more easily look at them rationally. Empathy and compassion are higher in those who practice meditation regularly. During meditation, activity in the amygdala (part of the brain that processes emotional stimuli) is also decreased, and as a result, people who meditate has more compassion for others. Mindful meditation is proven to adjust the brain wave that screens out distractions and increase their productivity more quickly. This ability to ignore distractions helps to improve our memory and focus.

As for our spirit, when we nurture our spirituality, we basically learn to trust and respect ourselves. Sometimes we forget to take care of what is really important. Our inner essence is abandoned most of the time while we are so busy caring for everything else but ourselves. Meditation can make you realise that we can only find peace and fulfilment by taking care of our social, emotional, physical, and spiritual self.

Constant meditation practice is a life changing experience. The longer we stay on a spiritual path, the more relaxed and balanced we will become. Nurturing your mind with positivity will allow you to have a greater perspective and understanding of the purpose of your life. Embrace the truth of your own spirit through meditation, and you will find it much easier to seek your genuine purpose.
