Meaning Of Christmas

December 7, 2016

Christmas is supposed to be the time of year where we celebrate the birth of Christ. But, unfortunately, it’s become a commercial holiday for many people. Although Jesus is the reason for the season, he’s often overlooked or merely mentioned. Christmas is a time of God showing His great love for us. It can be a time of healing and renewed strength. God sent His Son, Jesus, into the world to be born. His birth brought great joy, and Jesus gave up all his divine power to be part of humanity and show us that God can transform our lives with his love. HE came to bring us hope, not just for the future, but for today. Jesus asked us to put our hope in HIM. Because of Jesus, we have purpose. We have faith because we know as God’s children, we deserve happiness; we know that we can overcome any obstacle and that we are not alone. Christ gave us the reassurance that our failures are not greater than God’s love, and that happiness is the most important gift we can give to ourselves and to others.

The true meaning of Christmas is love. The bible says, “For God so loved the world that he gave his one and only Son, that whoever believes in him shall not perish but have eternal life. For God did not send his Son into the world to condemn the world, but to save the world through him.” By these words, we can understand that the true meaning of Christmas is the celebration of this incredible act of love. God loves us so much that he gave us His son to save us.

Lots of people find Christmas either merry or depressing because of how many good presents they are able to give. And for some, because their financial situation makes it very difficult to give, they have come to hate the Christmas holidays because of all the presents and money involved. How wonderful would it be to understand that we should not be focusing on getting presents or on giving presents, because the true meaning of Christmas is not about the presents. We should celebrate Christmas each year out of gratitude for what God did for us, to remember His birth by giving each other gifts, worshipping Him, and being especially conscious of the poor and less fortunate. Christmas can be a season where we give and receive gifts while we celebrate the family and friends in our lives, but the real meaning of Christmas is something even higher, bigger, and infinitely better than all of that. Christmas is about totally pure, unconditional true love.

Because the entire reason for Christmas is the love of God, it is very important for us to reflect upon the Christmas spirit and the significance of the day. When we understand the underlying purpose of Christmas, we are amazed to know its real significance. How wonderful it is to know that God reached down to man, by being born as the rest of us, having human nature and flesh? How comforting it is to see that Christ’s coming into the world was not accidental, but rather purposeful! Before Christ’s coming to human life, humanity knew God as a terrible Judge, A God to be appeased with gifts, who would exact from men the very last debit owed Him. Then, Christmas marks the day that God adopt believers into His family, making human beings sons and daughters of His. God gave us the opportunity to get to know him, to learn to trust him, and love him back. God became one of us, a human being, so we could understand what he is really like.

This Christmas, lets concern ourselves with the facts surrounding the birth of the Saviour so that we might become more appreciative of the festive season. Let’s recognise and appreciate the birth of the One who loves us and died for us. The One who saved us and gave us freedom. Let’s fill our hearts with peace, love, happiness and nurture your feelings of hope. Let’s be grateful for all our blessings, and spread His love around us. Let’s enjoy the peace which comes from knowing that our sins have been forgiven. Celebrate the season with joy, because the true meaning of Christmas lives in the heart, and the magic of Christmas is not in the presents, but in HIS presence.
