When we don’t love ourselves, it become impossible for us to enjoy our daily existence. Being content in life is strongly based on being happy with who we are. Only when you know your self worth, you stop trying to prove yourself to others, and start enjoying the life you are destined to live.
Loving yourself is not an easy task. We live in a world of high expectations. Everyone is looking for perfection, but not a lot of people is looking for self acceptance. If you want to love yourself, first you need to know who you are: learning about your beliefs and behaviour will help you to figure out what makes you happy and what is causing pain in your life. Most of us don’t know the importance of self knowledge, but the truth is that once you understand what you’re thinking or doing that’s causing you to have negative feelings, you begin to understand your own fears, and be aware of the false beliefs that are leading you to neglect yourself.
It’s impossible to love yourself if you don’t forgive yourself for your past mistakes, or if you don’t appreciate your own qualities. Try to explore your emotions each day, in order to discover more of your abilities, your passions, your interests and even your dislikes. You can use meditation to help you to interrogate yourself about your beliefs, values, and actions. Learning how to meditate is the best way to develop self-knowledge. To me, meditation is the process of going within and connecting with my true self, my inner essence. In order to be aware of your thoughts and emotions, you need to detach yourself from them, and observe how your mind works. Meditation is a very good way to quiet your mind and allow you to explore your inner world, but anything you do to help you to connect to your inner self is a step in the right direction.
Self love also means self-acceptance. You can only truly obtain self-love by being kind to your soul. Pay attention to how you talk to yourself and avoid saying negative things about yourself to others. Improving your self talk will stop your tendency to blame yourself for anything and everything that goes wrong in your life. Remember that when you turn your focus to your true self, you automatically focus less on winning the approval of others. When you’re constantly reminding yourself about your flaws, the light of your real self does not shine.
Get rid of toxic and negative people that don’t offer you encouragement in life. Value the people who sees and relishes your true self. If you have someone in your life that is interested in your passion, and never envious of your gifts, you are a lucky person. You just need to remember that although outside influences are important, you are able to encourage yourself no matter your what your circumstances are. True happiness is achieved when you figure out who you are and what you want out of life.
If you are plagued with feelings of sadness, worthlessness, and cannot imagine that your life will be any better, remind yourself that you can always choose to look on the bright side of everything. Every mistake you make can teach you a lesson for the future. Put your mistakes behind you, and have faith in yourself. Avoid second guessing our own decisions, because when you do that, you fail to take action. When you acknowledge your qualities, it’s less overwhelming to make any kind of self improvement.
Bring excitement back into your life. Do the things that you love to do more often. If you improve the relationship you have with yourself, your relationship with others also change for the better. Accept your circumstances, love your personality, your body, and trust your opinions and your choices. Enjoy the present moment without worrying about the future. Be proud of who you are, because you are valuable, and you were crafted with beauty and purpose.
