Affirmations are all about the power of positive thinking and self improvement, using self belief and a positive mental attitude supported by affirmations can achieve success in anything. Affirmations have to be personal, positive, about right now and specific.  Although they have been around for some time the law of attraction and NLP have brought them back into our consciousness in the last decade or so.

Affirmations help you to overcome self-sabotaging, negative thoughts. They help you visualize, and believe in, what you’re affirming to yourself, helping you to make positive changes to your life and career.

While there’s limited research into the effectiveness of using affirmations in a general setting, there is evidence that the use of positive affirmations can successfully treat people with low self-esteem, depression, and other mental health conditions.

You can use affirmations in any situation where you’d like to see a positive change take place. These could be –

  • Raise your confidence before presentations or important meetings.
  • Improve your self-esteem.
  • Improve your fitness
  • Get motivated to finish what you start

But the list is endless and affirmations can be used for any issue and following the simple format of – present tense, positive, personal and specific.  Some of my favourites are –

  • I can do this
  • I am fit and healthy , I exercise everyday and eat the best foods for me
  • I am happy
  • I have forgiven those who have hurt me and I am free from anger
  • My bank balance is increasing everyday and I always have enough money for myself.
  • I am naturally feminine, graceful and beautiful.
  • I love myself unconditionally and accept myself as I am.

It helps to write them down in a diary or journal, to read them every day and speak them out loud at least once a day. Meditate on your affirmations. Say and repeat the words, but think about what the words mean, think about the future and try to feel the emotions that your affirmations bring.

Display your affirmations at home and at work, post it notes work well, in the car, on the fridge and on your desk at work. Carry then in your pocket or purse and when all else fails get them out and re -read them. If you carry on with affirmations all around you your mind will eventually accept your affirmation as reality and change your behaviour automatically to match it.

A small amount of time spent every day on your affirmations will bring you the changes you want and deserve. They really help with those New Year’s resolutions too.
